Meet the Higher Ed CISO Who Built Cyber Heat Map

Christian “Chris” Schreiber is a cybersecurity leader focused on giving teams clear, data‑informed plans they can act on quickly. Cyber Heat Map® was built to power the CampusCISO Strategic Operating System in higher education.

It is the proprietary engine that allows leaders to benchmark maturity and prioritize investments, now available to other sectors through our partner ecosystem.

Founder’s Journey

Turning Insight into Action

Across nearly 30 years in information security and IT leadership, Chris saw the same pattern: teams need practical strategy, not dense frameworks or one‑off reports. In 2021 he launched CampusCISO to help higher‑education leaders build clear, defensible plans. To support that advisory work, he created the first version of Cyber Heat Map, a purpose-built analytics engine that helps leaders see their program at a glance, spot the gaps that matter most, and prioritize next steps using their data.

The goal has stayed the same: enable teams to improve security. That means vendor‑neutral guidance, simple workflows, and a living roadmap you can update in minutes, not months.
Professional Background

Breadth and Depth

▶ CISO Roles: University of Chicago, University of Arizona, University of Wisconsin–Whitewater.

▶ Advisory and Industry: Supported higher‑education clients at SunGard Higher Education (now Ellucian) and FireEye/Mandiant.

▶ Credentials: Master’s Certificate in Project Management; frequent contributor to higher‑education security discussions and events.

This mix of campus leadership, enterprise perspective, and advisory work shaped Cyber Heat Map into a practical, user‑focused platform that works in the real world.

Vision and Values

“I built Cyber Heat Map so teams could cut through noise, benchmark their progress, and turn findings into action - so they can spend more time improving security.”
Chris Schreiber, Founder
Chris stays close to customer reality through through Quarterly Strategy Reviews, group guidance, and the Cyber Bridge® alliance. The core principle is simple: make the complex clear, then keep one plan current as things change.

Community and Engagement

Chris is an active presence in Cyber Bridge®, on LinkedIn, and at industry events. Clients get a vendor‑neutral space for Q&A, templates, and office‑hours recaps so momentum never depends on a single meeting.
